Thin Film Extensional Flow of a Transversely Isotropic Viscous Fluid

چکیده

Many biological materials such as cervical mucus and collagen gel possess a fibrous micro-structure. This micro-structure affects the emergent mechanical properties of material, hence functional behaviour system. We consider canonical problem stretching thin sheet transversely-isotropic viscous fluid simplified version spinnbarkeit test for mucus. propose novel solution to model constructed by Green & Friedman manipulating form amenable arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian techniques. The system equations, reduced exploiting slender nature sheet, are solved numerically we discover that bulk controlled an effective viscosity dependent on evolving angle fibres. In addition, confirm previous conjecture demonstrating centre-line need not be flat, perform short timescale analysis capture full centre-line.

The extensional flow of a thin sheet of incompressible, transversely isotropic fluid

Motivated by the aim of modelling the mechanical behaviour of biological gels (such as collagen gels) which have a fibrous microstructure, we consider the extensional flow of a thin two-dimensional film of incompressible, transversely isotropic viscous fluid. Neglecting inertia, and the effects of gravity and surface tension, leading-order equations are derived from a perturbation expansion of ...

Viscous propulsion in active transversely isotropic media

Taylor’s swimming sheet is a classical model of microscale propulsion and pumping. Many biological fluids and substances are fibrous, having a preferred direction in their microstructure; for example, cervical mucus is formed of polymer molecules which create an oriented fibrous network. Moreover, suspensions of elongated motile cells produce a form of active oriented matter. To understand how ...

Transversely Isotropic Poroelasticity Arising from Thin Isotropic Layers

Percolation phenomena play central roles in the eld of poroelasticity, where two distinct sets of percolating continua intertwine. A connected solid frame forms the basis of the elastic behavior of a poroelastic medium in the presence of external con ning forces, while connected pores permit a percolating uid (if present) to in uence the mechanical response of the system from within. The presen...
